The Trip

Taking the 2002 GT to New Jersey

In 2005 I took the 2002 Mustang GT from Florida to New Jersey for Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords' first naturally aspirated modular Two-Valve shootout.

The magazine put together a field of street-oriented 2V Mustangs with no power adders. The GT finished 2nd place in the shootout.

MM&FF described the car as an example of getting a lot out of a Mustang with a relatively straightforward combination. By this point it had evolved from a 12.77 street-tire bolt-on car into the setup I was also using in Fun Ford Weekend's Street Stang class.

Two-Valve Shootout Coverage

MM&FF called this its first-ever naturally aspirated modular Two-Valve shootout. The rules required no power adders, street-oriented cars, overdrive manual or automatic transmissions, mufflers, and appropriate safety equipment.

The article lists the 2002 GT at 3,326 pounds with driver, stock 4.6-liter short block, ported factory heads, VT Stage II cams, Hooker long-tube exhaust, Tremec 3650, 4.30 gears, Weld Pro Stars and UPR front suspension.
